Our First Day of School!

I just wanted to let all parents and guardians know that the students has a GREAT first day of school! We discussed school rules and expectations, centers and center procedures, morning gathering routine, etc. We will spend this week reviewing school rules and expectations, classroom procedures and routines, bathroom procedures. I hope your child came home tonight telling you about everything they did today.

If you did not send in a take home folder with your child please due so as soon as possible. The take home folder will be used to send home important papers for you to read and respond to (if applicable).

I sent home papers, mostly from the office, today with your child; please read through and complete any papers necessary. Don't forget to send back the blue emergency cards by Friday! If you need one let me know and I will send one home with your child. Remind you child not to take out any papers from their book bags; there will be a chance those papers will accidentally stay on the bus.

Take Care Everyone!

Talking with Your Child About the First Day of School

Please talk to your child about . . .

How he or she will be going home (bus #, car rider or after care). The Kindergarteners usually do not know how they are supposed to go home on the first day of school.

Staying with our class; I will also talk to the students about this in school.

If they are buying or packing lunch. Kindergarteners also don’t usually understand the concept of buying or packing a lunch.

When going to the bathroom remember to flush, wash (use soap) and dry hands, put paper towels in the trashcan, and go straight back to the classroom.

 Blue Emergency Cards/Blue Emergency Card Contest: The nurses are having a blue emergency card contest. The classes that return all blue emergency cards will get a free jeans day. At this time I am not sure when the due date for the blue emergency cards, but if you have not filled out your child’s blue emergency card please due so as soon as possible. Remember to fill out all sections of the blue emergency cards, front and back.
 Parent Contact Information Sheet: If you have not completed and returned your child’s parent contact information sheet (green sheet) please do so by Friday, September 10, 2010. If you change your email address, phone numbers or move please let me (and the school) know of those changes so we are able to contact you when we need to.
 Change of Clothes: Please send in a change of clothes for your child; just in case your child spills something on his/her clothes or has an accident. The change of clothes should be in a plastic bag with your child’s name on the bag; it will stay in your child’s cubby.
 Sweaters/Coats: Remember to put your child’s initials on the tag of your child’s sweaters and coats. That way I will know who the sweater or coats belong to just in case it gets mixed up with other students’ sweaters or coats.
 Sending in Money: Whenever you send in money for lunch, jean’s day, field trips, etc. please send in the money in an envelop labeled with your child’s name, what the money is for, how much money is in the envelop and my name (if it’s misplaced then someone can put it in my mailbox in the office or bring it to my classroom).
 Change in Dismissal: If your child will be going home a different way than usual (for example: he or she will be a car rider or go to aftercare instead of going home on the bus) send in a signed note telling about the change in dismissal; that is school policy. I will sign and date the note and send it to the office. If there is no note sent in then your child will go home his or her usual way.
